Title:                        Staff Training & Development Specialist

Summary of Position:

The Staff Training & Development Specialist develops and conducts skills and knowledge training programs for RedCard employees. The individual is responsible for analyzing training needs, developing curriculum and delivering courses. The Staff Training & Development Specialist evaluates the trainee for effectiveness of training and individual growth. Responsible for maintaining training records, needs and results.


Duties & Responsibilities  

  • Confers with management, supervisors and employees to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and to better understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations, business initiatives and technologies. Develops project plans to ensure coursework development meets deadlines established to support the needs of the department Directors.
  • Performs needs analysis to determine skill gaps and training needs for employees and managers.
  • Develops learning objectives, builds lesson plans using instructional design methodology and adult learning theory, develops visual aids and handouts, creates interactive exercises, and develops appropriate quizzes or tests. Determines instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings and workshops.
  • Coordinates other subject matter expert (SME) trainers as required to fill in gaps and training sessions that the Staff Training & Development Specialist is unable to cover.
  • Maintains and ensures timely updates to all materials as needed.
  • In an effort to stay connected and knowledgeable on training content, the Training and Development Specialist will likely maintain/support a small Client Experience workload (limited # of clients/implementations) in order to stay relevant and connected to the work.
  • Coordinates training schedule with the hiring and training demands of the department Directors. Effectively schedules classes based upon availability of classrooms & trainers.
  • Works collaboratively with other trainers to ensure consistent approach/methodology, logical progression, reinforcement of concepts and minimal duplication of instruction.
  • Delivers instructor led trainings to employees and members of management on a variety of topics.
  • Devises programs to develop executive potential among employees in lower-level positions, as well as training programs to support proper succession planning.
  • Tests trainees to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training, and reports test results to management. Makes recommendations for improvement as determined.
  • Utilizes various feedback methods to provide SME trainers with constructive feedback on training presentation approach and effectiveness.
  • Effectively manages and maintains personnel training and compliance records (either in manual system or Learning Management System - LMS). Gathers and analyzes training records/trends for management's review. Provides accurate and timely reports for compliance purposes.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of learning theory, educational technology and best practices in training through ongoing training, publications and industry conferences.
  • Designs proposals for new training programs and expenditures for management's review and approval.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Training & Development, Instructional Design, Organizational Psychology or Business preferred.
  • Understanding of healthcare claims and enrollment data and how it translates to produce client materials, both printed and electronic
  • Basic data manipulation and understanding skills, including ability to use text editors
  • Ability to understand and utilize web based applications
  • Previous Customer Service experience preferred
  • Ability to identify and resolve/mitigate issues or risks associated with training projects
  • Superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills to communicate with and persuade a wide range of audiences
  • Proficiency with computer and applicable software packages, including Microsoft Office products - Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet and E-mail
  • Exposure to other, non-Microsoft project management tools such as the Altassian suite of products (Jira, Confluence, etc...) a plus
